Apocalypse - Live QnA Now!

Hey guys, Learn2Eel here with a special look at Apocalypse; we have the book here and now, and we are ready to answer any question you may still have about the book! Mr Jax and I picked up the Gamer's Edition this morning, and you can look forward to our reviews and impressions of both the Vortex Case and Apocalypse rulebook over the coming nights. For now though, I hope you enjoy this Questions and Answers article!

First up, to prove that I have the book, here is a hastily taken picture of me with it. Now, feel free to ask any question you like in the comments section below and I will try to answer as soon as possible! Please be aware that I will not be posting pictures of the actual rules as I don't want to get us in trouble.

  1. How's the Farseer council psychic power, and the Legion of the Damned formation?

  2. The Farseer psychic power is a Warp Charge three power, where you place a marker within 24" of one of the Farseers; the marker stays there until their next turn. While it is there, friendly models targeting enemy units within 12" of a marker re-roll to hit and to wound rolls against the unit. Pretty nasty, particularly given any Farseer can cast it.

All legion of the Damned cause Fear in the formation, and units within 12" of models from the formation treat their Leadership as three less. When they deep strike, enemy units within 6" of them suffer 2D6 S4 AP5 Soul Blaze hits. All of the Damned shooting is Fleshbane and Ignores Cover as well.

  3. Are both the Reaver and Warhound in the book? Stats and point wise, how different are they to last edition?

    1. Yes they are! The Warhound is virtually unchanged, save that it is less than fifty points cheaper. The Reaver appears to be identical in every way, save for the changes to explosions and super heavy walkers in general.

  4. Hi, L2E. What's the minimum points per side for the new Apoc, still 3K?

    1. It appears not to be a matter of points anymore, but of players. For example, a small Apocalypse game is described as between two players, while a regular Apocalypse game is between four or more players.

    2. Interesting. Thanks!

    3. You're welcome! I may be wrong but it does appear that there are no restrictions points-wise at all anymore, save that the players involved agree to preset totals.

  5. Hey, are there rules for The Tetragon of Darkness in there as I love me some Chaos Daemon goodness?

    1. Oh yes there are! It now includes a single one of the Daemon Troops choices for each god as well. In the "Tetragon", all friendly Chaos Daemons (so not Daemons from other armies) re-roll failed invulnerable saves, and any unit within the Tetragon gains Shrouded.

  6. What are the changes to gargantuan creatures? Can they compete with super heavy vehicles?

    1. How they compete against super heavy vehicles will likely come down to a number of factors; as it is, with D weapons now ignoring invulnerable saves, Gargantuans basically have to rely on chance when it comes to the heavy hitters.

Their stomps are arguably weaker - you use D3 small blasts instead of rolling to hit each individual model - and their Gargantuan Resistances have stayed largely the same, save that psychic defences and immunity to Fleshbane have been removed. They now come stock with Feel No Pain and Strikedown though.

Otherwise, few changes to the Gargantuans themselves.

  7. Does strength D also cause instant death or is it just multiple wounds?
I'm also guessing it's true that it prevents ressurection abilities like necrons or saint celestine.

    1. No Instant Death, it is only multiple wounds; this was likely to allow characters and monstrous creatures a greater chance of surviving one.
It only specifies that it prevents Reanimation Protocols - the Living Saint may still come back to life!

  8. What do the DE Combat Stimms and Webway Assault do? They've been blurred in the pictures I've seen. Also, how about the Kabalite Web Strike force?

    1. In the Carnival of Pain formation, friendly units with a Pain Token within 12" of one of the formation models has their Feel No Pain save improved by one, and if they have three Pain Tokens, it is improved by two. In the Dark Olympiad, not only do the Beastmasters and their monsters get Combat Drugs, but you get an extra dice roll for Combat Drugs and apply both.

The Webway Assault for the Kabalite Web Strike is determined by placing a large blast marker as part of the fortification set-up phase. It is similar to a regular Webway Portal from the codex, and can be placed anywhere outside of the enemy deployment area, save that vehicles can come out of it. As well, the units that come out of it have twin-linking on the turn they arrive.

    2. Webway Assault sounds awesome.

  9. What are the changes to the Eldar Revenant Titan and its Weapons?

    Thanks in advance,

    1. The Revenant has gone up in price by a century, and its stats are unchanged. When using its Jump Jets, there are now no restrictions to what weapons it can fire afterwards. The guns are identical.
